Strengthening Critical Infrastructure with Advanced Relining

NUFLOW NORTHWEST SYDNEY
MOUNT TAYLOR NATURE RESERVE | ICON WATER CANBERRA ACT

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Nuflow was engaged to carry out critical network maintenance for Icon Water in Canberra, focusing on underground piping infrastructure that required both precision relining and confined space expertise. The project demanded careful coordination of equipment and resources, adherence to strict safety and compliance requirements, and the application of specialized techniques. With complex logistics
and high standards in place, NuFlow delivered a durable, watertight solution designed to strengthen the long-term reliability of the network.

CHALLENGE

  • Confined Space Access – The project required safe entry into a manhole under confined space conditions, with specialized gear and trained technicians.
  • Pipe Liner Finishing – Both ends of the liner needed to be cut back and sealed to ensure a watertight connection with the existing pipe.
  • Logistical Coordination – Equipment and materials were sourced from multiple suppliers with tight scheduling to ensure timely setup and completion.
  • Safety and Compliance – All relevant documentation, including isolation plans and Release for Work permits, had to be completed and approved before work could begin.

THE SOLUTION

NuFlow implemented a structured approach that combined thorough preparation, precision liner work, and
confined space expertise. By coordinating logistics efficiently, applying advanced sealing techniques, and adhering to strict safety standards, the team was able to deliver a seamless solution that restored the integrity of the underground pipe system.

  1. Preparation & Setup – NuFlow’s team arrived onsite with all necessary confined space gear, safety equipment, and tools. Documentation and permits were completed prior to commencing work.
  2. Precision Liner Cutting – The liner was trimmed back approximately 100mm to achieve a cleaner edge, ensuring a stronger and more reliable seal.
  3. Transition Sealing – Transition sealing was applied to both the inside and outside of the liner, securely bonding it to the existing pipe to reinforce system integrity.
  4. Confined Space Execution – Technicians safely entered the manhole using confined space equipment to complete the liner cutting and sealing, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
  5. Site Handover – Once the work was completed, the site was cleaned and secured. NuFlow representatives met with Icon Water’s onsite contact to hand over isolation plans and Release for Work permits.

THE RESULTS

NuFlow successfully completed the project on schedule while meeting the highest safety and quality standards. The finished liner provided a strong, watertight seal that restored the integrity of the pipe system. Through careful planning, seamless supplier coordination, and expert confined space execution, NuFlow delivered a reliable long- term solution for Icon Water. This project further demonstrated NuFlow’s capability to manage complex infrastructure challenges while ensuring client satisfaction and system durability.

Nuflow was engaged to rehabilitate a 300 mm reinforced concrete stormwater pipe at Vincent and Paul Court in Baulkham Hills. Using the advanced IMPREG UV structural liner system, NuFlow restored the pipe’s strength and service life without disruptive excavation, overcoming access challenges and debris obstructions to deliver a durable trenchless solution that minimised surface disruption.

Nuflow was engaged by Blacktown City Council to rehabilitate the main pool drain at Riverstone Swimming Centre. The 100 mm asbestos cement line showed signs of deterioration and obstruction, so NuFlow installed an 8.13 m Blueline liner with a new gate valve and riser to restore reliable drainage and improve long-term performance without disruptive excavation.
