Sewer Line Rehabilitation

NUFLOW NORTHWEST SYDNEY
EDUCATION PRECINCT | NSW DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Nuflow was engaged to address a sewer line failure behind D Block at a High School. The 100mm PVC sewer line beneath the building had a broken inspection opening (IO) point, which caused effluent to spill onto the synthetic grass area. This posed a significant health risk, created unpleasant odours, and
forced the school to restrict student access to the area during recess. To restore service quickly and safely, a trenchless relining solution was proposed using NuFlow’s Blueline technology.

CHALLENGE

  • Health & Safety Risk – Effluent overflow created strong odours and unsanitary conditions, leading to the closure of the affected area.
  • Damaged IO Point – The broken inspection opening allowed sewage to escape directly into the play area.
  • Potential Blockages – The sewer line serving nearby toilets was suspected of contributing to the overflow.
  • Restricted Access – The incident forced a key outdoor space to be shut down during school hours, impacting students.
  • Worksite Limitations – The line ran beneath the building, requiring a trenchless rehabilitation approach to avoid disruptive excavation.

THE SOLUTION

To address the damaged sewer line and prevent further health and safety risks, NuFlow implemented a trenchless rehabilitation strategy designed to deliver long-term structural integrity with minimal disruption to school operations.

THE RESULTS

The sewer line behind D Block was successfully rehabilitated using NuFlow’s Blueline trenchless
relining system. By restoring the 100mm PVC host pipe without excavation, disruption to the school grounds was avoided and the area was returned to safe use. The repaired line eliminated effluent leakage, resolved the odour issues, and allowed the synthetic grass area to be reopened for students. The completed works were documented with before-and- after photos, and the school now has a structurally sound sewer line that is protected against future failures.
