Road Pipe Rehabilitation

NUFLOW NORTHWEST SYDNEY
BRONTE ROAD & BIRRELL STREET WAVERLEY COUNCIL

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Nuflow carried out essential rehabilitation works on a 17-metre section of 300mm concrete
pipework beneath Birrell Street to Bronte Road. The works were scheduled as night operations, running from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM, Sunday to Thursday, to minimise community disruption.

The project addressed an illegal connection between PVC and concrete pipework as well as multiple cracks within the line. Given the location under a busy roadway and adjacent to public infrastructure, the works required precise coordination with council approvals and external contractors.

CHALLENGE

The project presented several challenges that required careful planning and execution to ensure successful delivery while complying with council requirements and minimising public impact:

  • Illegal Connection: An unauthorised PVC-to-concrete pipe connection had to be sealed to restore system integrity.
  • Cracked Pipework: Sections of the existing concrete pipe were compromised and required structural rehabilitation.
  • Restricted Access: The location beneath a road and near a bus stop required night works to avoid traffic and commuter impacts.
  • Council Requirements: The project had to align with council’s road occupancy licence (ROL) conditions and coordination with traffic control contractors.
  • Specialised Equipment: Use of a tractor and push rod CCTV inspection system was necessary to assess and monitor the internal condition of the pipe.

THE SOLUTION

To overcome these challenges, Nuflow implemented a structured plan that combined trenchless technology with coordinated project management:

THE RESULTS

The rehabilitation works were completed efficiently within the designated night shift windows, with minimal disruption to the community. The relined section restored full structural integrity to the 300mm pipework, sealing the illegal connection and addressing cracks beneath the roadway. By completing the works under council’s strict timing and access conditions, Nuflow ensured compliance, maintained public safety, and delivered a durable solution that extends the service life of the asset.

Nuflow was engaged to carry out a CCTV investigation of a 375 mm stormwater line connected to a grated side entry pit on the Sunnyholt Road on-ramp of the M7 Motorway. Given the high-risk location on a major freeway, safety and traffic management were top priorities while advanced camera and tractor CCTV technology captured critical internal condition footage to inform future rehabilitation planning.

Nuflow was engaged to rehabilitate a 41-metre length of severely deteriorated stormwater strip drains outside the Visitor Information Centre. Despite missing sections, corrosion, water seepage and weather delays, the trenchless re-lining delivered a structurally sound, watertight drainage solution that ensures safe pedestrian access and long-term performance.
