Stormwater Pipe Rehabilitation

NUFLOW NORTHWEST SYDNEY
PILATES STUDIO – CASTLE HILL, The Hills Shire Council NSW

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Nuflow was engaged to rehabilitate a 15-metre section of stormwater pipe running beneath the Pilates studio and connecting to the street. The existing line was deteriorated and at risk of causing water ingress and restricted flow, which could have impacted the studio’s day-to-day operations. Because the client required the space to be ready for use by 4:45am, all work had to be completed during strict overnight timeframes. This made efficiency, planning, and site protection essential elements of the project delivery.

CHALLENGE

  • Strict time restrictions – The Pilates studio opened for classes very early in the morning, which meant that all works had to be completed overnight without any delays. Crews needed to arrive fully prepared and complete the installation, curing, and clean-up in time for business operations to resume at 4:45am.
  • Complex bladder removal – After the reline was installed, the bladder became stuck due to bunching caused by the thicker poly and vinyl materials used in the hot water cure process. This created significant resistance during removal and required additional time and equipment to resolve.
  • Precision junction reinstatement – Two 100mm junctions feeding into the line had to be reopened with absolute accuracy. If not reinstated properly, these connections could have disrupted water flow and caused ongoing maintenance issues for the client.
  • Sensitive working environment – The site was located directly beneath an active Pilates studio, making it essential to protect flooring and equipment while also completing a full clean-up before the space reopened. Any disruption or damage would have directly impacted the studio’s operations.

THE SOLUTION

To address the challenges of time restrictions, difficult bladder removal, and the need for precision in a sensitive environment, the Nuflow team implemented a carefully planned approach that combined thorough preparation, advanced equipment, and meticulous site restoration.

THE RESULTS

The rehabilitation project successfully delivered a 15- metre, 150mm Blueline liner installation beneath the Pilates studio, restoring the stormwater system to full functionality. Both 100mm junctions were precisely reinstated using robotic cutting, and a final CCTV inspection confirmed the structural integrity of the line. The studio experienced no operational downtime, as the works were completed entirely within the overnight window and the site was restored to pristine condition before classes resumed.

Additionally, the project provided valuable learning for future installations: hot water cure lengths for thicker poly and vinyl bladders should be limited to around 7.5 metres to simplify removal and avoid excessive bunching. By documenting this lesson, Nuflow further strengthened its approach to complex rehabilitation projects carried out in sensitive, time-critical environments.
