Same-Day Response To School Sewer Blockage

NUFLOW NORTHWEST SYDNEY
EDUCATION PRECINCT| NSW DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION

PROJECT OVERVIEW

NuFlow was called for a same-day response after a blocked toilet was reported in the disabled bathroom (CR0015) of the General Learning Building (B00C). The issue was urgent, as Support Unit students needed immediate access, and the work had to be done carefully to avoid disruption during ongoing NAPLAN exams. Our inspection revealed heavy blockages of wipes, paper towels, and rubbish extending through nearly 28 metres of pipe, with limited access points available. Despite these challenges, NuFlow’s team mobilized quickly, applying high- pressure cleaning, CCTV inspection, and preventive measures to restore service the same day.

CHALLENGE

  • Urgent Access Required – The disabled toilet was blocked, preventing students from using the facility.
  • Restricted Timing – Work had to be completed with minimal noise and disruption during NAPLAN exam schedules.
  • Heavy Obstruction – The sewer line was packed with wipes, paper towels, chip packets, and other debris across nearly 28 metres of pipe.
  • Limited Access Points – The first inspection opening was ineffective, and the downstream manhole was seized shut, requiring an hour of work to open.
  • Health & Safety Concerns – Raw sewage overflowed in the manhole chamber, requiring disinfection and immediate safety measures.

THE SOLUTION

To address the urgent blockage while minimizing disruption during NAPLAN exams, NuFlow applied a targeted approach that combined advanced cleaning methods, thorough inspection, and preventive measures. The team ensured the issue was resolved efficiently, safely, and with long-term reliability in mind.

THE RESULTS

NuFlow successfully restored full functionality to the disabled bathroom on the same day, allowing students uninterrupted access to essential facilities. The sewer line was cleared of over 28 metres of heavy blockages, inspected, and verified clean via CCTV. Preventive installations were completed to reduce the risk of future blockages, while immediate disinfection ensured safety until specialist cleaners arrived. The school principal was fully briefed, and operations continued smoothly with minimal disruption during the NAPLAN testing period.
