Every bottle of&nbsp;<strong>shampoo, tube of toothpaste, and chemical&nbsp;<\/strong>that goes down the drain makes its journey through the system too (<a href=\"https:\/\/nuflow.net\/ipswich\/how-to-avoid-a-blocked-drain-occurring-in-your-home\/\">if it doesn&#8217;t clog your drain up first!<\/a>).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The waste is purified to be&nbsp;<strong>even cleaner than tap water<\/strong>. These had to be emptied regularly, and it wasn\u2019t unusual for the contents to trickle out and make a real mess.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fortunately, things have come a long way since then!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>In the late 1800\u2019s:&nbsp;<\/strong>Sydney and Melbourne began implementing sewers, but Brisbane held&nbsp;off due to its smaller population and the cost. Instead, \u2018earth closets\u2019 (aka outdoor dunnies) were&nbsp;mandated.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>1904:<\/strong>&nbsp;The City of Ipswich was established.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>1915:<\/strong>&nbsp;Brisbane city\u2019s first S1 Main Sewer pipe was laid by hard&nbsp;rock miners from Gympie and&nbsp;Ipswich.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>1924:&nbsp;<\/strong>Nine years later, thanks to delays caused by World War 1, the S1 pipe was complete.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>1937:<\/strong>&nbsp;Construction began on the Ipswich sewerage system, with waste initially directed to a treatment&nbsp;plant at Tivoli.&nbsp;As Ipswich and its sewerage network expanded, treatment plants were built at&nbsp;Rosewood, Goodna, Carole Park and Bundamba.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>1980:&nbsp;<\/strong>Brisbane was finally fully sewered!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>2006:&nbsp;<\/strong>In the midst of Queensland\u2019s worst drought on record, construction commenced on Ipswich\u2019s Bundamba Advanced Water Treatment Plant, to help with the water scarcity crisis.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>2008:<\/strong>&nbsp;The new Bundamba plant became fully operational. With ground-breaking technology including&nbsp;microfiltration, reverse osmosis, and advanced oxidation steps \u2013 it was successful in recycling 82% of raw water into purified recycled water for industrial and agricultural use.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>2013:<\/strong>&nbsp;The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.couriermail.com.au\/news\/queensland\/ipswich\/sewerage-plant-eases-load-for-future-growth\/news-story\/24f303716ed1564e6f8f00e001585e31\">new&nbsp;Goodna Treatment Plant<\/a> was opened.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>2021<\/strong>: Major upgrades were made to the Bundamba plant, to ensure flood resilience and cater for population growth in the region.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">We Reline Sewer Pipe so it&#8217;s Good as New!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Working on the sewers can be an extremely messy and unsanitary task, and can cause major disruption.
